Verwood is the newest town we deliver to, in the literal sense – it grew enormously from the 1970s onward and most of the housing reflects that. Modern estates, wide roads, driveways you can actually get a vehicle onto, and a lot of efficient modern stoves rather than open fireplaces.
That matters more than it sounds. A modern lined flue with a decent stove is far more forgiving than a Victorian chimney, and it burns wood more slowly and completely. Verwood customers get noticeably more heat out of a ton bag than someone with an open fire in central Bournemouth does – so the sizes people order here tend to look small on paper but last well.
Out toward Three Legged Cross and the Edmondsham side the plots open up and there's heathland on the doorstep. Those are our bigger Verwood orders, and a fair few of them are people who could season their own but would rather not bother.
