Order once, not five times
If you have a shed, a garage, a covered corner or even a pallet and a tarp, buy big once. It is the single easiest saving in firewood.
Ranked at today’s prices
Cheap logs come down to two things: buy by the load, not by the bag, and only pay for drying you need. Right now the cheapest ready-to-burn firewood we sell is seasoned mixed by the full transit, £95 a cubic metre.
The league table
Price per cubic metre is the only fair way to compare firewood. Here is our whole list, cheapest first.

Worked out from today’s price list: the delivered price divided by the volume. Net bags are left out, because nobody buys a winter of wood in nets.
Cheapest ready to burn: Seasoned Mixed by the full transit, £95 a cubic metre.
Cheapest of all: unseasoned logs by the full transit, £59 a cubic metre. They are fresh cut, so they need 12 to 18 months stacked somewhere airy before you burn them.
Two things move the price. The size of the load: small bags cost more per cubic metre because you are paying for the bag, the handling and the trip. How dry it is: seasoned wood has spent a year or more taking up space in our yard, and kiln dried has been through the kiln as well.
Six ways to pay less
You are not buying better wood in the small bags. You are buying handling and packaging. A full transit is the lowest price per cubic metre we do.

Buy unseasoned logs in spring and stack them somewhere airy for 12 to 18 months. It is about the cheapest way anyone can heat a house with wood.
Unseasoned logs4Kiln dried lights easiest and burns hottest. Seasoned costs less, and it is what most of our customers order year after year.
Compare themAn open fire sends most of its heat up the chimney and gets through roughly twice the wood for the same warmth in the room.
Dry wood delivered in October can be wet wood by January if it sits on bare ground under a tarp. Off the ground, covered on top, open at the sides.

What £250 buys
A half transit
of kiln dried firewood: 2.2 cubic metres for £250, which is £114 a cubic metre. Burning four or five evenings a week on a 5kW stove, that is about 20 weeks of fires.
The same money in seasoned mixed leaves change from a half transit. Stretching to a full transit brings the price per cubic metre down again.
A word of caution
The cheapest logs on our list are unseasoned, and they are not for burning this winter. They are fresh cut, for people who dry their own. Burn wood before it is dry and most of its heat goes into boiling off water: the fire smokes, the glass blackens and the flue tars up.
So compare like with like. If you want a fire tonight, the question is which ready-to-burn firewood is cheapest per cubic metre. If you have space and patience, the question is how much you save by doing the drying yourself.

By the load. At today’s prices the cheapest ready-to-burn firewood we sell is seasoned mixed by the full transit, £95 a cubic metre. The cheapest of all is unseasoned by the full transit, £59 a cubic metre, but those logs are fresh cut and need 12 to 18 months of drying first.
Because you are paying for the bag, the handling and the trip. A net bag of seasoned mixed is £12 for 0.03 cubic metres, which is far more per cubic metre than any load.
Yes, by a long way: £59 a cubic metre on a full transit, against £95 for seasoned mixed. You are doing the drying, so it needs 12 to 18 months stacked somewhere airy before you burn it.
It depends how you use the fire. Kiln dried lights easiest, burns hottest and leaves the least soot. Seasoned is air-dried, costs less and is what most of our customers order year after year.
