Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our firewood, delivery zones, ordering and more. Can't find your answer? Just call or WhatsApp us.

Ordering
The easiest way is WhatsApp — send us a message on 01202 022560 with your postcode, the product you want and the size (net bag, ton bag, half transit or full transit). Alternatively give us a call on the same number or email firewood@clearcuttreesurgery.com. We'll confirm stock, check your postcode and arrange delivery.
Subject to stock availability and your location, we can often deliver same day or next day. When you contact us, we'll let you know the earliest available slot. We'd always recommend giving us a day or two's notice if you can, particularly during the busy winter months.
Contact us when you order and we'll confirm the payment process. We typically arrange payment by bank transfer or cash on delivery. We'll confirm what works best when you get in touch.
Yes, absolutely. When you order, just let us know what extras you'd like — kindling, eco kindling, wood wool, King Alfred's Cakes, pine cones, chopping block or insect log — and we'll add them to the delivery.
Delivery
Free delivery covers all BH postcodes — BH1 through BH18, plus BH21, BH22, BH23, BH24 and BH31 — covering Bournemouth, Poole, Wimborne, Christchurch, Ferndown and surrounding areas. We also deliver free to Ringwood and Fordingbridge (SP6). See our full delivery area page for the complete list.
Yes — we cover Swanage (BH19) and Blandford Forum (DT11), but a small delivery fee applies. Call or WhatsApp us with your postcode and order details and we'll give you an exact delivery charge.
All firewood is tipped loose — we back up to your chosen spot and tip the load exactly where you direct us. The bag itself is retained by us. Please let us know in advance about any access restrictions (low entrances, narrow gates, weight restrictions on drives etc) so we can plan accordingly.
It helps if someone can be there to direct us where to tip, but if you have a clear instruction about where the load should go and access is straightforward, we can often deliver without you being present. Let us know your requirements when you order.
Products & Firewood
All our firewood is cut to 8–10 inches (approximately 20–25cm). This fits the majority of log burners, multi-fuel stoves and open fireplaces without further splitting. If you have an unusually small firebox, let us know before ordering.
Our kiln dried firewood is dried to under 20% moisture content — typically 15–18%. This meets and exceeds the Ready to Burn standard and delivers maximum heat output and minimal smoke.
Yes — our seasoned firewood (mixed, ash and hardwood) is all ready to burn on delivery. Unlike unseasoned wood, it has already been dried to an appropriate moisture level and doesn't need any further drying time.
Our timber comes from local tree surgery operations across Dorset, so the mix varies depending on what's coming through the yard. You'll typically find a blend of ash, oak, beech, sycamore and birch — all excellent burning hardwoods. Our pure ash and seasoned hardwood products are available separately if you want a specific species.
Yes. Kiln dried hardwood with under 20% moisture content burned in a DEFRA-exempt appliance (an approved wood burning stove) is compliant in Smoke Control Areas. Much of Bournemouth and Poole falls within Smoke Control Areas — if you're unsure about your stove's exempt status, check the DEFRA website or ask your stove installer.
Our sizes are based on volume. A ton bag holds approximately 1.1 m³ of firewood. A half transit load is 2.2 m³ — exactly twice as much. A full transit load is 4.4 m³ — four times a ton bag. The full transit is our best value option per cubic metre and is typically enough to last most households a full winter.
Unseasoned firewood is freshly cut wood with a high moisture content — often above 50%. It cannot be burned straight away and should not be used in wood burners as it will produce excessive smoke, damage your appliance and flue, and be very inefficient. It needs to be stacked with good airflow for 12–18 months before burning. It's the cheapest option per cubic metre — ideal for people with storage space who plan ahead. See our unseasoned firewood page for full guidance.
Sustainability & Sourcing
All our timber comes from local tree surgery operations across Dorset, primarily through our sister company ClearCut Tree Surgery. These are trees that come down for normal reasons — storm damage, disease management, maintenance, safety clearance — not unnecessarily felled. Nothing is imported.
Yes — and genuinely so, not as a marketing claim. 100% of our timber is recycled from trees that were being removed for legitimate reasons. No trees are felled specifically to produce our firewood. Recycled local hardwood has a fraction of the carbon footprint of imported firewood, and nothing goes to landfill that can be made into fuel.
Yes — branches and tops that can't be cut into useful log lengths go through the chipper and become our woodchip products. We offer both mixed woodchip (£45/ton bag) and screened & graded woodchip (£80/ton bag) for garden and landscaping use. See our woodchip page for more.
