About Seasoned Mixed Firewood

Naturally dried, ready when you are

Seasoned firewood is wood that has been cut and left to dry naturally — typically for 12 months or more — until the moisture content drops to a level where it burns cleanly and efficiently. Unlike unseasoned wood, which can have moisture content above 50%, good seasoned firewood sits comfortably below 30% and is ready to burn straight from delivery.

Our seasoned mixed firewood is sourced entirely from local tree surgery operations across Dorset. The timber comes from trees removed for perfectly normal reasons — maintenance, disease management, storm damage, clearance work. Instead of going to landfill or the chipper, it comes to us.

Because the supply comes through ClearCut Tree Surgery and partner tree surgeons in the area, the species mix varies. You'll typically find a blend of the finest burning hardwoods Dorset has to offer — ash, oak, beech, sycamore and birch. Every species is excellent firewood and the blend gives you a well-rounded, consistent burn.

It's our best-value everyday firewood and the product most of our customers order regularly throughout the winter season. A full transit load at £420 is enough to keep most households going for a full season — and it works out at by far the best price per cubic metre in our seasoned range.

What's In The Mix

Local hardwood species

Because our timber comes directly from local tree surgery work across Dorset, the exact species mix varies. You'll generally find a blend of these excellent burning hardwoods:

🌿
Ash

Widely regarded as the finest firewood available. Burns hot and cleanly with a long, steady flame — even when not fully seasoned. Low smoke output and minimal ash residue.

Heat rating: Excellent · Smoke: Very low

🌳
Oak

Dense, slow-burning and exceptionally long-lasting. Once a good oak fire is going, it'll sustain heat for hours. Very high energy density — excellent for overnight burning.

Heat rating: Excellent · Smoke: Low

🍂
Beech

Burns with a steady, even heat and a beautiful flame. Produces little ash, splits cleanly and is a pleasure to work with. One of the most consistent hardwoods for a log burner.

Heat rating: Very good · Smoke: Low

🌲
Sycamore

A solid all-rounder that burns well and provides good heat output. Works best seasoned and splits easily. A reliable complement to the denser species in the mix.

Heat rating: Good · Smoke: Low–moderate

🌱
Birch

Fast-lighting with a bright, cheerful flame and a pleasant mild aroma. Excellent for getting a fire going quickly. Burns faster than oak but pairs brilliantly with it.

Heat rating: Good · Smoke: Very low

Making The Most Of It

Storing your firewood

Our seasoned firewood is ready to burn — but storing it correctly keeps it that way through winter and helps it improve further if you're stocking up early.

01
Keep Rain Off The Top

A log store, open shed or tarpaulin over the top is all you need. Rain reintroduces moisture — the single biggest thing to avoid with seasoned wood.

02
Stack With Airflow

Don't stack logs directly against a wall or in a sealed space. Air circulation around the logs is what keeps them dry and prevents mould on the cut ends.

03
South or West Facing

Position your log store facing south or west to maximise exposure to sun and prevailing winds — the two things that dry and maintain wood most effectively.

04
Off The Ground

Keep the base of your stack off bare soil if possible — a pallet or concrete base prevents ground moisture wicking up into the bottom logs.
