Firewood That Was Already Coming Down

We're a small Dorset outfit selling logs off our own tree surgery work. Not a single tree is felled to be sold as firewood — every log here came off a job that had to happen anyway.

The Short Version

A Waste Problem, Solved Backwards

Tree surgery produces an enormous amount of good hardwood every single day. Most of it gets chipped or tipped. That always struck us as daft.

Clearcut Tree Surgery has been working across Bournemouth, Poole and the wider Dorset area for years — storm damage, diseased trees, safety work, clearances. Ash dieback alone has brought down a colossal amount of timber round here. All of it is decent hardwood, and a great deal of it was going to waste.

Woodland Timber & Firewood Fuels exists to catch that timber before it does. The wood comes back to the yard instead of the chipper, gets cut to a consistent 8–10″, and is either stacked to air-dry under cover or dried down in the kiln. Then it goes back out to people's homes across the same patch it came from.

It's a deliberately small operation and a deliberately tight delivery area. We're not shipping logs in from Latvia and we're not a national franchise with a call centre. Ring the number on this site and you'll get someone who knows what's in the yard this week.

That's the whole business, really. Local wood, dried properly, sold honestly, delivered by the people who cut it.

What Actually Happens

Five steps between a tree coming down somewhere in Dorset and a load landing on your drive.

Step One

A Tree Has To Come Down

Storm damage, ash dieback, a split limb over a road, a clearance for building work. Our tree surgery crews are out across Dorset every day doing work that was going to happen whether or not anyone wanted firewood.

Step Two

The Timber Comes Back To Us

Instead of being chipped on site or run to a tip, the usable hardwood is loaded and brought back to the yard. Softwood and brash still get chipped — that becomes our woodchip and mulch, so very little is genuinely wasted.

Step Three

Cut, Split And Sorted

Everything is cut to the same 8–10″ so it fits a normal stove without you attacking it with an axe. Pure ash and pure hardwood get kept separate rather than thrown into the mixed pile, because plenty of people want one or the other.

Step Four

Dried Properly, Not Rushed

Some is stacked to air-dry under cover in the yard until it's ready — that becomes our seasoned. The rest goes into the kiln and comes out under 20% moisture. Anything not dry enough gets sold honestly as unseasoned rather than passed off as ready to burn.

Step Five

Onto Your Drive

You pick a slot, we back up as close as we can safely get, and it's tipped exactly where you point us. You pay the driver once it's down — and the bags come back with us to be used again.

Fell A Tree For Firewood

Every log came off tree work that needed doing anyway. If a tree is healthy and safe, it stays standing — there's more than enough timber coming out of Dorset without cutting into that.

Sell Wet Wood As Dry

Unseasoned is sold as unseasoned, clearly labelled, at an unseasoned price. If you want logs for this winter we'll steer you to kiln dried or seasoned, even when the cheaper option is sitting right there.

Take Your Money Up Front

No deposit, nothing taken when you book. You pay the driver once the load is down and you've had a look at it. If it isn't what you expected, you haven't paid for it yet.

Import A Single Log

Nothing comes from Eastern Europe, nothing comes off a container. It's all Dorset hardwood that grew a few miles from where it ends up being burnt, which is rather the point.
