Five trees make up most of what our crews bring in. They do not all burn the same, which is why a mix works: something that lights easily, something that lasts. Tap a log to split it open.
Lights easily, burns steadily and barely spits. If you only ever burned one wood, this would be it.
Very dense, so it is slow to catch and slow to burn. Put it on an established fire and it will hold heat for hours.
A dense wood that burns hot with a bright flame and leaves a good bed of embers.
Catches readily and gives a good flame. It burns a little quicker, which makes it useful for getting a fire up to heat.
The papery bark is full of natural oils, so birch lights fast and burns bright. Use it to get going, then add something slower.

A log will not light from a match. Every fire is built in three layers: a firelighter, then kindling, then logs. Add any of these to a firewood order and they arrive on the same truck.

BurnKiln dried or seasoned hardwood
A stove burns best on dry, dense logs. Ours are cut to 8–10 inches, which fits the great majority of stoves without any more splitting.
BurnSeasoned ash
With no glass between you and the fire, you want a wood that barely spits. Ash is the traditional choice and gives a steady, clean flame.
BurnSeasoned mixed
Outdoors you want good flames at a sensible price. Dry seasoned logs mean you and your neighbours are not sat in smoke.
BurnKiln dried hardwood
A pizza oven needs a fierce, clean heat. Very dry hardwood gets the oven up to temperature quickly and keeps soot off the dome.
BurnBBQ firewood and fruit woods
We also supply BBQ firewood, including fruit woods for smoking meat. Cherry gives a mild, slightly sweet smoke. Apple is mild and fruity and a favourite with pork and chicken.
BurnKiln dried
The drier the wood, the faster the water heats. Kiln dried logs give the most heat from the least wood and keep the burner clean.
BurnKiln dried hardwood
A sauna stove has to get the stones properly hot and keep them there. Very dry hardwood gives a hot, clean burn with very little smoke or soot.
BurnSeasoned hardwood, by the load
A log boiler gets through a lot of wood, so a bulk load makes sense. It wants properly dry logs: wet wood wastes heat and tars up the boiler. We run a biomass boiler of our own at the yard, so we know what they like.
BurnSeasoned logs and natural fire starters
Dry logs catch easily and smoke far less, which matters when you are sat round the fire. For lighting by spark we stock King Alfred's cakes, pine cones and wood wool.
BurnVery dry wood, and plenty of it
A wood firing gets through a lot of very dry wood, fed little and often for hours. Our kiln dried logs give a hot, lively flame. Every kiln is different, so tell us about yours.
BurnSeasoned mixed
A good bonfire burns bright rather than smouldering, and that takes dry wood. Dry logs also make far less smoke for you and for next door.

We travel further for bigger loads

Monday to Saturday, in the slot you picked. The driver tips it loose where you want it, as long as the truck can safely get there.
Cash or card to the driver once the logs are on your drive, or ask for an invoice. Nothing is taken when you book.
We do not buy logs in and sell them on. The timber comes from our own tree work across Dorset and is cut, split, bagged, dried and loaded in our own yard. These are our photos, not stock ones.

The bit that does not become firewood. Brash, softwood and the pieces too small to split go through our chipper and come to you by the ton bag, for paths, beds and borders.

Fresh-cut chip straight from the chipper: mixed sizes, with some leaf in it. It composts down faster, which is just what you want under trees and hedges.

Put through the screen so the pieces come out an even size. This is the one for the parts of the garden people look at, and for anywhere children play.
Measure the area and pick what it is for. We add 10% for settling and round up to whole bags.
A ton bag holds around 1.1m³: about 20m² at 50mm, 13m² at 75mm or 10m² at 100mm. Play areas want the screened chip. It is tipped loose where you want it, not spread, and it is untreated with nothing added. More about our woodchip
Committed to 100% recycling
No woodland is felled to fill our bags. Every log comes from trees that had died or become a danger, and from the day-to-day tree surgery our Clearcut crews do across Dorset. The tree was coming down anyway. We make sure none of it goes to waste.
Same stove, same kindling, same match. Pick a basket of logs, lay the fire and see what the moisture in the wood does to it.
Freshly cut hardwood is often 35 to 50% water. Before it can warm the room, a fire has to boil that water off. That is why wet logs hiss, smoke and burn low.
Hardwood at 8% moisture gives about 4.8 kWh of heat per kilo. At 12% it is about 4.6 kWh. At 40% it is about 2.9 kWh: roughly 40% less heat from the same weight of wood.
Wood burns properly at 20% moisture or less. Our seasoned logs read 9 to 14% and our kiln dried logs 5 to 11%. Less smoke, cleaner glass and less soot in your flue.

There is no deposit on any order, so if you need to move or cancel a delivery there is nothing to refund and no cancellation charge. Just let us know as early as you can so we can free the slot for someone else, particularly in autumn when they go quickly.
Changing a delivery date, adding to an order or checking where the truck is: a phone call is the quickest way, because we can see the diary in front of us.
We supply pubs, restaurants, holiday lets, campsites, glamping sites, estates and event companies across Dorset, usually as a regular drop on a set frequency so you are never caught short in a cold week. Log slices, decorative logs and event centrepieces are quoted separately.

Yes. Our kiln dried and seasoned logs are ready to burn the day they land. Kiln dried reads 5 to 11% moisture and seasoned reads 9 to 14%. Wood burns properly at 20% or less. Unseasoned is the one exception, and it is sold as exactly that: it needs 12 to 18 months stacked before it will burn well.
Both are ready to burn on delivery. Kiln dried is dried in our kiln to 5 to 11% moisture: it lights the easiest, burns the hottest and leaves the least soot. Every log is cut to 8–10 inches, whichever firewood you order. That fits the great majority of stoves, fireplaces and multi-fuel burners without you having to split anything further.
A ton bag is 1.1 cubic metres, which is roughly four and a half wheelie bins. A half Transit load is 2.2m³, a full Transit load is 4.4m³ and a barrow bag is 0.275m³. The size tool on this page draws each one to scale.
As a rough guide, a stove lit most evenings gets through about a full Transit load (4.4m³) over a winter. Weekends only, a ton bag or two. An open fire burns roughly double what a stove does. The calculator on this page works it out from three questions.
Wherever you point us, as long as we can safely get the truck to it. Everything is tipped loose: we do not stack. If access is tight, give us a call when you order and we will work it out beforehand.
No problem. Untick "I will be home for delivery" on the order form and tell the driver where to leave the load.

All of it comes from tree surgery work carried out across Dorset by Clearcut Tree Surgery: storm damage, disease, safety work and clearance. Nothing is felled just to be sold as firewood, and nothing is imported.
Off the ground and open to the air. A pallet underneath stops damp wicking up, and a roof or sheet over the top keeps the rain off, but leave the sides open so air can move through. Do not wrap the whole stack in a tarpaulin: it traps the moisture in. How to store firewood.
