Swanage is the other side of the harbour from us, and getting there means either the long way round through Wareham or the chain ferry. Either way it's a proper journey rather than a local drop, which is why BH19 carries a delivery fee rather than being free. We tell you the figure up front and nothing is charged until you've agreed it.
The upshot is that Swanage is bulk country whether you wanted it to be or not. On a full transit the delivery fee spreads across 4.4m³ and barely registers; on a net bag it dominates. Almost everyone here orders a half transit or a full transit, and it's genuinely the sensible way to do it.
Purbeck stone cottages are the local housing story – thick walls, small windows and, very often, an open fireplace rather than a stove. Those chimneys are frequently old, wide and lazy, and they punish damp wood. Kiln dried sells better here than the county average, and for good reason.
