Wimborne is the most interesting firewood town in our area, because the housing runs from genuinely old to brand new within about a mile. The lanes around the Minster have cottages with inglenooks and chimneys that predate anyone's idea of a flue liner; Merley and Corfe Mullen are largely modern estates with efficient stoves. The same load of wood behaves quite differently in the two.
For the older properties in the centre, dryness matters more than anywhere else we deliver. A big old open chimney with a lazy draw is exactly where damp wood causes trouble — smoke in the room, tar up the flue. It's why we steer Wimborne centre customers toward kiln dried more often than we do elsewhere.
