How It Rates

Our own ratings, judged as the wood arrives on your drive — not after you've dried it yourself. We'd rather tell you where something is weak than have you find out in January.

Heat Output1 / 5

As delivered, almost none — most of the energy goes into boiling off water.

Dryness1 / 5

Fresh cut. That is the entire point, and the reason it is cheap.

Easy Lighting1 / 5

It will fight you. Do not try until it has dried.

Burn Time1 / 5

Wet wood smoulders rather than burns.

Value Per m³5 / 5

£59/m³ on a full transit — nothing else we sell comes close.

Not Yet Ready 0%
Not Yet — 12 To 18 Months

This is the honest bit: burn it now and it will hiss, throw out almost no heat and tar up your flue. Stack it and wait.

Unseasoned Questions

Why is it so much cheaper?
Because you're doing the drying. Seasoned wood has spent a year or more taking up space in our yard; this hasn't. £59/m³ on a full transit against £95/m³ for seasoned mixed is roughly a 38% saving, and all it costs you is somewhere to stack it and some patience.
Can I burn any of it this winter?
No. Please don't. Fresh-cut wood is mostly water — it hisses, gives out very little heat and deposits tar up your flue, which is both wasteful and a chimney fire risk. If you need wood for this winter, order kiln dried or seasoned mixed.
How exactly should I stack it?
Off the ground on a pallet or battens, somewhere the wind gets at it, with a roof or sheet over the top only. Leave the sides completely open. Don't wrap the stack in a tarpaulin — you'll trap the moisture in and grow mould instead of drying wood. A sunny wall with a breeze is ideal.
How will I know when it's ready?
A moisture meter on a freshly split face is the reliable answer — you want 20% or under. Without one: the logs feel light for their size, the bark comes away easily, the cut ends show fine radiating cracks, and two knocked together give a sharp crack rather than a dull thud.
Why isn't it sold in net or barrow bags?
There's no sense in it. Unseasoned only makes financial sense in volume, and a net bag of wet wood is no use to anyone for a year and a half. It starts at the ton bag for that reason.
