Kiln Dried Questions

Is kiln dried worth the extra over seasoned?
If you're fussy about your stove glass, burning in a smoke control area, or you want the fire hot quickly, yes. Kiln dried is under 20% moisture every load, where air-dried seasoned varies a little with the weather. If you just want good honest firewood at the best price, seasoned mixed is the sensible pick.
Can I burn it in a smoke control area?
Kiln dried is the fuel to go for — dried to under 20% moisture, which is what matters for clean burning. You also need an appliance that's exempt for your area, so check your stove's listing too. The fuel and the appliance both count.
Is it good for a pizza oven?
It's the best thing we sell for one. It lights fast, gets up to temperature quickly and produces very little smoke — which matters when the food is in the same chamber as the fire.
Does it need storing any particular way?
Keep it dry and it stays ready to burn. Off the ground, under cover, air moving through. Kiln dried will happily pull moisture back out of the air if you leave it sitting in the rain, so don't undo the kiln's work.
What species is it?
Mixed local hardwood from our tree surgery work — ash, oak, beech, sycamore and birch depending on the month. If you want one species specifically, order the pure ash or pure hardwood.
