Seasoned Hardwood

Pure Hardwood · No Softwood In The Mix

Premium seasoned hardwood sold on its own, not blended. Denser logs that hold their heat far longer than a mixed load — so fewer trips out to the log store on a cold night, and a fire that's still going when you go up to bed.

Seasoned Ash

The One People Ask For By Name

Pure ash, sold separately from our hardwood mix. Ash is the firewood everyone recommends for a reason — it lights easily, barely spits and gives a clean, steady flame. If you have an open fire in a living room, this is the one.

Product Questions

Kiln dried or seasoned — which should I get?
Both are ready to burn the day they arrive. Kiln dried is taken down to under 20% moisture, so it lights easiest, burns hottest and leaves the least soot — worth it if you're fussy about your stove glass or you're in a smoke control area. Seasoned mixed is air-dried, costs less and is what most of our customers order year after year. If you're undecided, start with seasoned mixed.
What's actually in the seasoned mixed?
Ash, oak, beech, sycamore and birch, in whatever proportions the month's tree work gives us. It's all hardwood and all local — there's no softwood filler and nothing imported. If you specifically want one species, order the pure hardwood or the pure ash instead.
Why is unseasoned so much cheaper?
Because you're doing the drying. Fresh-cut logs are around £59/m³ against £95/m³ for seasoned mixed, but they need 12–18 months stacked somewhere airy and covered before they'll burn properly. Buy it in spring, forget about it, and you'll be burning it the winter after next at roughly half the price. Burning it wet just wastes it and gums up your flue.
What size are the logs?
Every log on this page is cut to 8–10″, whichever product and whichever size you order. That fits the vast majority of stoves, fireplaces and multi-fuel burners without you needing to split anything further. If you have an unusually small firebox, ring us before ordering.
How much is a ton bag, really?
1.1m³ — roughly four and a half wheelie bins. A half transit is 2.2m³ and a full transit is 4.4m³. A barrow bag is 0.275m³, about the size of a large wheelbarrow load. Net bags are top-up size.
Is it cheaper to order one big load?
Considerably. A full transit of kiln dried works out at £102/m³ against £132/m³ for a ton bag of the same wood — about 22% less. The saving is bigger still on unseasoned. The only reason not to go big is if you've nowhere to stack it.
Do you stack it for me?
No — everything is tipped loose where you direct us. It's how we keep the prices where they are. Tell us in the order notes if access is tight and we'll work it out before the day.
Do I keep the bags?
No, the bags come back with us. Everything is tipped out on delivery, which is why we can reuse them and why you're not paying for packaging.
